43rd Fritz Boyden Memorial Youth Tournament - As appeared in Coastland Times

The 43rd Fritz Boyden Memorial Youth Tournament was held on Wednesday June 18, 2014. The Tournament was held at the following fishing piers, Avalon Fishing Pier, Nags Head Fishing Pier, Jennette's Fishing Pier and the Outer Banks Fishing Pier. It was a beautiful day even though the temperatures reached the mid 90's with a heat index over 100.
This year the Tournament had a total of 275 kids that registered for the Tournament which were the following : Avalon Fishing Pier 90, Nags Head Fishing Pier 71, Jennette's Fishing Pier 96 and The Outer Banks Pier 18. In the 4 to 9 age group there were 112 kids and in the 10 to 16 age group there were 163 kids. In this Tournament we had 194 male anglers and 81 female anglers. Also out of the total of 275 anglers there were 70 local anglers . This year we had a combination  of anglers from 12 different states.
Trophies with rod and reels were awarded this year to the anglers who caught the largest fish in the following species of fish : puppy drum, gray tout, flounder, sea mullet, spot, croaker, trigger fish, pig fish, pompano and sting ray.

I would like to thank all the pier captains: Kutchie Scott  Outer Banks Pier, Sarah McDowell   Jennette's Pier, Rose Lay   Nags Head Pier and Carol Mowers of NCBBA   Avalon Pier. They help make this tournament a great success with all of the volunteers who come out and dedicate their time and effort into this AWESOME Youth Fishing Tournament . I would also like to thank the following members of the Nags Head Surf Fishing Club for their continuos dedication and help: Pat Cahill the president of the club and the master of ceremonies, Kearns Lowman our head scoring judge, Maryann and Dave Maryott , Linda Flannner, Allison Rucker and Ashley Bahen.
Special thanks to Terry Stewart of TW's Bait and Tackle for the fishing rods and reels, David Thompson of SYSCO Foods for the 400 hot dogs and buns plus potato chips and cookies with napkins, ketchup and mustard, Will Thorpe of High Cotton for the cooker, Jimmy Ray Watts the master chef with Chad Pennell and Tom Gilliam for putting out posters and being a scoring judge.
A very special  thank you to Mr. Mike Kelly who provides his parking lot and the use of his restaurant for our Awards Ceremony and his employees who help us set up everything for this special event.
This  tournament could not be as successful as it is without the dedication and the commitment of the members of the Nags Head Surf Fishing Club, the North Carolina Beach Buggy Association and the N.
